Index + Pets: what is actually confirmed

Garage Games lists an official event called \u201cIndex + Pets\u201d on the Search For The Needle experience page as new content starting Saturday, September 12, 2026. The Index is a collection log and pets came with it. What the pets are, how you get them, and what they do has not been published anywhere official — so this page shows the verified surface and refuses to fill the gaps with guesses.

What the official surfaces confirm

Every row below comes from Roblox's own experience page or its public API on the checked date — no fan wiki, no video title.

Recorded sessions

What pet sessions actually showed

Three creator sessions recorded on 2026-09-14, 2026-09-15 and 2026-09-21 went through the pet shop and the cosmetics shelf, so these rows have a date and a source instead of a guess. They are session observations, not developer statements: prices, odds, and stats can change, and nothing here has been measured for value per hour. Where two sessions read the same shelf differently, both readings stay up with their dates.

ObservedTwo creator sessions, 2026-09-14 and 2026-09-15 (video evidence), cross-checked against the official pass API

A pet shop in the lobby lists exactly two pets: Dog for 1,000 Gems, and Cow as the official 499 R$ pass.

Both recorded sessions show the same two entries and the same Dog stat block, and the Cow price matches the official Roblox pass list. One session displayed a discounted 400 R$ (360 R$ paid) on the Cow card, so treat 499 R$ as the list price and discounts as temporary.

ObservedTwo creator sessions, 2026-09-14 and 2026-09-15 (video evidence)

Dog's shop card shows Speed 8 / Carry 100 / Grasp 10 and the trait “Quick on its feet”; it carries hay back to the trough.

The same three stats and trait appear in both sessions. Carry decides how much hay it moves per trip, which is why it still needs the walk back to the trough.

ObservedOne creator session, 2026-09-14 (video evidence)

Cow's shop card is labelled “Sells where it stands”, so it converts hay without the walk back to the trough.

That single line is the only difference the game itself states between the two pets. No session measured the resulting Gems or Cash per hour for either pet.

ObservedCreator sessions, 2026-09-14 and 2026-09-15 (video evidence)

Pets level up by spending Gems, and the cost rises sharply per level.

One session recorded 300 → 1,000 → 2,250 → 4,800 Gems across Cow levels 1–4; the other recorded 200 Gems for Dog's first level and showed Speed 8→9, Carry 100→150, Grasp 10→15. Different pets, so the two figures are not a contradiction — but neither has been re-measured since.

ObservedCreator sessions, 2026-09-14 and 2026-09-15 (video evidence)

A pet cosmetics shelf restocks on a timer with published rarity odds — Common 40%, Uncommon 30%, Rare 18%, Epic 9%, Legendary 3% — and each hat adds a pet stat.

Recorded examples: Police Hat (Uncommon) at 450 Gems or 24 R$ for +7% PET SPEED; Wizard Hat (Rare) at 700 Gems or 49 R$ for +12% PET GRASP; Baseball Cap (Common) at 250 Gems or 19 R$ for +5% PET SPEED. The Gems-versus-Robux options and the bonus direction were consistent across both sessions.

ObservedOne creator session, 2026-09-14 (video evidence)

The Index logs variant hay types with their own drop odds and Gem values, and tracks progress toward a cosmetic reward.

Recorded entries included Rainbow (1% chance, 150 Gems), Muddy (5%, 50 Gems), and Grassy (10%, 30 Gems), with a Farmer's Crown cosmetic shown as the collection reward. The full entry list and the exact reward threshold were not shown.

ObservedCreator session, 2026-09-21 (video evidence)

A later session read the same cosmetics shelf at 450 Gems or 29 R$ for Police Hat and Cowboy Hat, and showed a hat changing the pet's own panel.

Police Hat (Uncommon) at 450 Gems or 29 R$ for +7% PET SPEED, and Cowboy Hat (Uncommon) at 450 Gems or 29 R$ for +8% PET CAPACITY. The recorded Robux figure is 29 R$ here against 24 R$ in the earlier sessions — same hat, same Gems price, two Robux readings, so neither is published as the price. Wearing Police Hat moved the dog's shown Speed from 9.6 to 10.7 in the same session.

ObservedCreator session, 2026-09-21 (video evidence), cross-checked against the Clan Chest odds on the clans page

Pet cosmetics are also one of the six Clan Chest outcomes.

The chest's published odds list Viking Hat at 2.7%, next to Gems bundles and the three clan tool drops — so the shelf is not the only place a pet hat comes from.

These rows come from watching recorded runs, not from a published table. If the shop changes, the observation is stale and gets re-checked — the date above each row is the version boundary.

Still open

Nothing here is confirmed yet

These are the questions players are actually asking, answered with \u201cunknown\u201d until a first-party source or a reproducible in-game result exists.

  • Whether the pet roster goes beyond the Dog and Cow shown in the pet shop
  • The pet level cap, and whether upgrade costs keep rising at the same rate
  • The exact bonus each pet level adds, and whether pet bonuses stack with your class
  • How many Index entries exist and what completing the Index rewards
  • Whether pets stay in the game after the current event window closes
  • Whether the 2X Class Luck pass and the PETS code's Luck Boost stack
  • How you put a hat on a pet once you own it

Community trackers report the event window runs 12–19 September 2026. That end date is reported, not confirmed: the official listing shows the start only, and no statement says whether pets remain after the window closes.

What does work today

Your existing companion and luck systems

Two systems already in the game matter for this update, and both are documented on their own pages.

Connecting the 2X Class Luck pass and the code's Luck Boost to class rolls is our reading of the labels, not a published rule. Whether the two stack is unverified.

How this page stays useful

When each blank gets filled in

This page is rebuilt from first-party surfaces, so it changes when they change — not when a video says so.

Official patch note or description change

If Garage Games publishes pet names, tiers, or Index rewards, they move into the verified table with the source and date.

Reproducible in-game result

A published pet or Index reward carries an observed label and the build it was seen in — never a permanent rule.

Event window closing

Once the reported end date passes, we re-check whether pets persist and move anything retired into a dated note.

FAQ

Pets and Index questions

What is the Index in Search For The Needle?

The Index is the collection log that arrived with the Index + Pets update. Garage Games names it in the official event listing and has not published how many entries it holds, but recorded sessions show variant hay types such as Rainbow, Muddy, and Grassy logged with their own drop odds and Gem values, plus a cosmetic reward for collecting them.

How do you get pets in Search For The Needle?

Through the lobby pet shop that opened with the Index + Pets event. Recorded sessions show exactly two entries: Dog, bought with Gems (1,000 Gems in both sessions), and Cow, sold as the official 499 R$ Robux pass. The Dog figure is an observed session price rather than a published one — check the shop card before you spend, because event prices move.

Dog or Cow — which pet should I get?

The game itself states one difference: Dog carries hay back to the trough, while Cow is labelled “Sells where it stands” and so skips the return trip. Dog costs Gems (1,000 observed), Cow costs the 499 R$ pass. No session has measured the Cash or Gems per hour of either pet, so we will not rank them — pick by whether you want to spend Gems or Robux, and by whether skipping the walk back matches how you play.

Do pets level up, and what does it cost?

Yes — pets are levelled with Gems, and the cost climbs fast. Recorded sessions showed 300 → 1,000 → 2,250 → 4,800 Gems across Cow levels 1–4, and 200 Gems for Dog's first level (Speed 8→9, Carry 100→150, Grasp 10→15). Those are single-session observations from 2026-09-14 and 2026-09-15; no level cap has been shown.

Is the Cow Pet worth 499 R$?

We cannot tell you yet. The pass is official and its price is verified, its card states “Sells where it stands”, and recorded sessions show it working — but Garage Games has not published its stats and nobody has shown a before/after measurement. Treat it as a convenience buy with a known price and an unmeasured payoff.

Does the PETS code give pets?

No. Code sites report PETS as 200 Gems plus a 30-minute 2x Luck Boost, not a pet. It stays marked Reported on our codes page until a redemption is shown.

When does the Index + Pets event end?

There is no confirmed end date. Community trackers report a window through September 19, 2026, but the official listing only shows the start. We re-check the experience page and the pass list for changes rather than guessing.

How we label this page

Verified means a first-party Roblox surface (experience page or public API) showed it on the checked date. Observed means a recorded session showed it on a stated date — real, but one session's build. Reported means public sources claim it without a verifiable redemption or measurement. Anything we cannot support stays in the open-questions list instead of the answer.
