Verified effect
Pack Mule's +50% carry is the only effect visible in checked builds — it ranks highest on confidence alone.
Eight classes, one verified effect, and a lot of Guessing Online. This page ranks roles with confidence labels instead of pretending an S/A/B hierarchy is proven.
This tier list answers "best class" with best-by-goal cards - beginner, capacity, speed, automation, and the end-game chase - so the Search For The Needle tier list stays honest: rates verified in-game, effects labelled until tested.
For almost everyone: Pack Mule first (verified +50% carry at a 25% pull rate), stack Gems, then decide between a realistic rare (Prospector, 3.9%) and the 0.1% Ultimate Farmer flex.
Confidence legend: Verified in game visible in-game · Early signal repeated community/creator language, not confirmed · Still unverified inferred from the name or untested. Rates are always checked against the game itself; effects mostly are not — that gap is exactly why this page refuses letter tiers.

Five checks, applied to every class, re-run after each update.
Pack Mule's +50% carry is the only effect visible in checked builds — it ranks highest on confidence alone.
How often a spin lands there, straight from the in-game UI: Starter 40% down to Ultimate Farmer 0.1%.
Capacity, economy, clearing, automation, or prestige — the best class depends on which loop you're improving.
Classes persist until you spin again, so a wrong pull only costs Gems — the criteria reward cheap experiments.
Effects and rates can change in any patch; labels carry the checked date and re-verify after updates.
Ranking changes are logged here so you can tell fresh advice from stale advice.
Your first ~20 spins come from early Gems. The goal here is a class that helps before you understand the game.
Best for: Fewer sell trips, more hay per run
The only effect line visible in the spin UI: carry 50% more hay in every bag. Capacity is the first bottleneck every new player hits.
Best for: Your default until a spin lands
40% of spins land here — it's the class you'll see most. No bonus line is shown.
Mid-game spins usually land here. These classes name their lane, but their exact effects aren't published anywhere yet.
Best for: Cash income, if the name means what it says
The name points at selling/income value, and 14% makes it a realistic pull — but no screen confirms the effect.
Best for: Pitchfork-focused clearing
Name implies a Pitchfork bonus; no verified effect text exists in checked builds.
Later-game picks that (by name) interact with tools and drones — the passes you may already own.
Best for: Explosive clearing builds
Name pairs with Dynamite; permanent Dynamite owners may get the most from this class — unverified.
Best for: Hay Drone owners
1% rate makes it a genuine milestone pull; the name points at drone synergy, unconfirmed.
The prestige target. Be honest with yourself about the math before chasing it.
Best for: A realistic 'rare' milestone
The name suggests needle/rare-find value — unverified, but the 3.9% rate is a reachable goal.
Best for: The collection, not the gameplay
0.1% per spin means ~1,000 expected spins (~40,000 Gems) for one, ~2,995 spins (~119,800 Gems) for 95% odds. Effect unverified.
Search For The Needle is a solo game where friends simply help clear hay faster — there is no team-combo system, so this page has no team section. How much friends actually speed things up hasn't been measured yet; we'll add it once we can test it fairly.
Nobody has published fair, repeatable class tests. A letter ranking you see elsewhere is an opinion dressed up as a measurement.
All 8 rates + the 40-Gem spin cost + Pack Mule's carry line. Everything else carries an explicit unverified label.
After every update we re-check the spin screen. When we can run fair same-chapter, same-class comparisons, labels upgrade from Early signal to Verified in game.
The honest answers, with the math where it matters.
No controlled class benchmarks exist yet. Inventing ranks would mislead you, so the page ranks roles with confidence labels instead.
Pack Mule — its +50% carry effect is visible in-game and capacity is the first bottleneck most players feel.
It's a prestige chase: 0.1% per spin means roughly 1,000 expected spins (~40,000 Gems). Run the odds calculator before committing.
Every role card links the math; these pages finish the job.
